  • Analysts now believe the Adesanya vs. Jones fight could end up taking place this winter.

Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones are two of the most popular mixed martial artists on the planet. For years, fans have been debating how a fight between the two champions would play out. The likelihood of this ever happening seemed slim, though. New reports now indicate the Adesanya vs. Jones fight could end up coming together toward the end of 2021.

There has been a Twitter beef going back and forth between light heavyweight and pound-for-pound king Jon “Bones” Jones and newly minted middleweight champ Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya. Online sportsbook Bovada has made Jones the big -550 favorite in a potential superfight between two champs with Adesanya coming back at +375. These odds are accurate at the time of writing, but you might see them change a little closer to the fight as more and more money is placed on the champ, Jones. Daniel Cormier knows the moment is coming. At some point, inside the Octagon against Jon Jones, his world will be rocked. He will be caught with a punch or vicious elbow.

Jon is currently training to move into the heavyweight division. Adesanya is also jumping up in weight to challenge for the light-heavyweight title this weekend. Now is a great time to discuss what could lead to the super-fight between these two men.

Let’s get into it!

Israel Adesanya is Prepared to Make History on Saturday

On February 11 of 2018, Israel Adesanya made his debut with the UFC. Less than two years later, he won the undisputed middleweight championship of the world. He’s now 20-0 in MMA and many believe he’s the sport’s best pound-for-pound fighter.

Jon
  1. Jones is regarded as one of the greatest mixed-martial-arts fighters, and some may argue that he is still one of the top contenders in the UFC when he can stay out of trouble. In 2011, at age 23, Jones became the youngest champion since the UFC instituted weight classes with his victory over Mauricio Rua. Jones has been the UFC Light Heavyweight undisputed champion twice, from March 20, 2011.
  2. Meanwhile, another respected sportsbook, Bovada, currently has Jones as a large -375 favorite over Adesanya, which is closer to the norm of what a Jon Jones betting line has looked at throughout.

Adesanya has already recorded two defenses of his middleweight title. Most recently, he defeated Paulo Costa via TKO in the second round. His striking level is unmatched and he seems to be entering into his fighting prime right now.

On Saturday, “The Last Stylebender” will be making his move into the light-heavyweight division. He’s set to challenge Jan Blachowicz for his 205-pound title. A win would make Israel one of the few men to ever hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously.

This is one of the best fights in UFC history. Contrary to popular belief, it’s an extremely tough test for Adesanya. Jan Blachowicz is a tremendous power puncher and has improved massively over the past few years.

There is a method to Israel’s madness here. He seems focused on eventually securing a fight with Jon Jones in the future. Capturing the light-heavyweight title seems like the perfect way to achieve that goal.

Both of these men have tests they will need to pass. If everything works out, however, there’s a chance we could see Israel and Jon Jones fighting before the end of 2021.

Here’s When to Expect the Adesanya vs. Jones Fight

A true super-fight in MMA only takes place every few years. Fans have been treated to some good ones in the past. Fights like GSP vs. Penn 2, Cormier vs. Miocic, and McGregor vs. Alvarez come to mind.

The MMA community loves to see two champions competing against one another. There are a million things that need to come together for these fights to happen, though. Many now feel there is a clear path for the Adesanya vs. Jones fight to happen this year.

Obviously, Israel is set to challenge for the light-heavyweight belt this weekend. A win could prompt him to vacate the middleweight belt to focus on things at 205 pounds. Jones is set to challenge for the heavyweight title at some point this summer. A title win may be enough for Jon to move back down in weight where he seems to be the best.

Adesanya is constantly asked about the matchup with Jones. He finally gave an answer on when this could come together. Some were surprised to hear that the middleweight champion is looking at.

“Unfortunately it may not be in summer or July, but there is still December. There is still December 2021,” Israel said. “All I know is that fight needs a crowd. I can’t do that in an empty arena.”

This timeline seems to make the most sense. Jones will likely be busy until sometime next fall or winter. That could give Adesanya time to capture and perhaps even defend the light-heavyweight championship.

2021 is shaping up to be a special year for the sport of MMA. Stay tuned for updates on this possible fight coming together over the next few months!

There’s Still Time to Bet on UFC 259 Online

The UFC has been holding events on a regular basis this year. After a brief stint on Fight Island, the promotion made its return to the Apex Center in Las Vegas. It’s here that UFC 259 will take place this weekend.

Bovada is offering odds on all of Saturday’s fights! This site is well-known among MMA fans for providing incredible betting options on UFC events. The card this weekend is offering some great opportunities to win big.

Many are placing their bets on the main event between Adesanya (-240), and Jan Blachowicz (+190). The general consensus seems to be that Adesanya is the better striker and will be able to pick Jan apart. Blachowicz is as tough as they come, though, and has five rounds to catch the middleweight champion with a big shot.

The co-main event is also bringing in some big bets. Amanda Nunes (-1100) will look to defend her featherweight belt against Megan Anderson (+650). Nunes has proven to be leagues above the competition in the UFC and should be able to finish Anderson before the final bell.

This entire card is stacked. The bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan is expected to be fantastic. Make sure to head over to Bovada today to check out the odds on this entire event!

Daniel Cormier knows the moment is coming. At some point, inside the Octagon against Jon Jones, his world will be rocked. He will be caught with a punch or vicious elbow. Maybe he gets trapped in a submission hold.

It’s going to happen, and then he will have to reach deep within himself.

Cormier is a man who not only is undefeated in mixed-martial arts but also has never even lost a single round. And yet he still understands what it means to fight through adversity, despair and unfathomable pain.

He was one of America’s most accomplished amateur wrestlers, and yet Cormier always seemed to fall just a little short. He lost in the college Division I finals. He finished fourth at the 2004 Olympics, and then four years later ended up in the hospital instead of holding a gold medal when a sudden illness prevented him from even competing.

But those disappointments were nothing compared to enduring a series of devastating real-life tragedies as Cormier lost people close to him. The worst was the death of an infant daughter who, years later, remains a constant presence in his thoughts.

So, yes, Cormier is well-aware that UFC light heavyweight champion Jones, the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter, likely will put him in a position where he has to peel himself off the canvas. But Cormier believes that after you’ve been to the dark places where he has, he will rise back up. He has reached the biggest stage of his life, at age 35 and against all odds, for a reason.

“I’m not supposed to be here,” Cormier said quietly after a recent workout at his training gym in San Jose, Calif., the American Kickboxing Academy. “I’ve been somewhere where I couldn’t see any hope, any reason for living. That’s what people don’t understand. That’s what Jon Jones doesn’t understand. I had to pick up a broken man and rebuild him. And now I have this chance to do something special.

“That’s why I’m going to win this. Life has taught me that you can’t give up. Ever. I’m not going to lose this chance. I can’t.”
