1. DESCRIPTION OF SWEEPSTAKES:
Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest will take place this year, but there won't be any fans cheering. The organizer of the wiener-wolfing competition and defending women's champ explain the big changes coming to this year's COVID-impacted contest.
The Hot Dog Costume Contest (the “Sweepstakes”) is a random drawing promotion comprised of $312 in prizes.
2. SWEEPSTAKES PERIOD:
The Sweepstakes begins on October 9, 2017 and ends on October 31, 2017 (the “Sweepstakes Period”). The Sponsor’s computer is the official timekeeping device for this Sweepstakes.
3. ELIGIBILITY:
Open to legal U.S residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry. Void where prohibited by law. Employees, agents, successors, and assignees of Smithfield Packaged Meats Sales Corp. and its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising agencies and promotional companies involved in the Sweepstakes (collectively, the “Promotional Entities”), as well as the family and household members of same (including spouses, parents, step-parents, grandparents, children, step-children, grandchildren), shall be ineligible to participate in the Sweepstakes and shall be ineligible for any prize covered herein. Entrants acknowledge that, Sponsor is not liable for reimbursement of any prizes otherwise payable to Sweepstakes contestants who are in violation of this provision.
4. HOW TO ENTER:
During the Sweepstakes Period, tag @OriginalNathans on Instagram or Facebook with a photo of themselves (either alone or in a group/family) dressed as a hot dog and tag the photo with the hashtags #NathansFamous and #HotDogHalloweenContest. No purchase is necessary to enter or win.
LIMIT: MAXIMUM OF ONE (1) ENTRIES PER PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD DURING THE SWEEPSTAKES PERIOD
5. SELECTION OF WINNERS:
One winner will be selected randomly from among all eligible entries received during the Sweepstakes Period. Sponsor or Sponsor’s promotional agent will conduct a random drawing (“Drawing”) on or about the business day after the conclusion of the Sweepstakes Period. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received at the time of the Drawing. The potential prize winner will be notified via the method of entry (for example, direct message to their Instagram account if winning entry is an Instagram post). If a prize winner notification or a prize is returned as undeliverable, a potential prize winner is ineligible, a prize winner declines a prize, or a potential prize winner does not respond to Sponsor’s prize winner notification within forty-eight (48) hours after notification, the prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner in a random drawing from among all remaining eligible entries.

No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded. Prizes are not transferrable and may not be redeemed for cash. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute any prize for an item of equal or greater value in the event an offered prize becomes unavailable for any reason. All costs and expenses associated with the prize acceptance and use, not specifically provided herein, are the responsibility of the winner. 7. PUBLICITY:
Entrants must have permission from all individuals that appear in a submitted photo to use their image in the submission and to grant the rights set forth herein. If requested, entrant must be able to provide evidence of such permissions in a form acceptable to Sponsor. By uploading a photo submission in connection with this Sweepstakes, entrant grants Sponsor a royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, public, create derivative works from, and display such photo submission, in whole or in part, on a worldwide basis, in any media now known or later developed, for any purpose, including, without limitation, for promotional purposes, without further compensation to the entrant or any individuals that appear in the photo. Acceptance of the prize constitutes permission for the Promotional Entities and their agencies to use winner’s hometown, opinions, name, likeness and/or voice for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, except as otherwise prohibited by law.
8. PRIVACY POLICY:
Any personally identifiable information collected from entrant during participation in the Sweepstakes will be used by Sponsor and Sponsor’s retail partner to administer the Sweepstakes and in accordance with Sponsor’s Privacy Policy as stated at http://www.smithfieldfoods.com/privacy-policy.
9. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
By participating in this Sweepstakes, entrants and prizewinners agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and Promotional Entities, which are final in all respects and not subject to appeal. In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Official Rules, any related Abbreviated Rules or other statements contained in any Sweepstakes-related materials, including, but not limited to: any entry form, point-of-sale material, or television, print or online advertising, the terms and conditions of these Official Rules shall govern. All federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations apply. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify permanently from this Sweepstakes any entrant it believes has violated these Official Rules and verify eligibility of entrants or require potential prizewinners to sign and return to Sponsor an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release of Liability. Neither Sponsor nor anyone acting on its behalf will enter into any communications with any entrant regarding this Sweepstakes, except as expressly set forth in these Official Rules. Failure to comply with these Official Rules may result in disqualification from the Sweepstakes. By participating in the Sweepstakes, entrants and prize winners agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Promotional Entities, Nathan’s Famous, Inc., Facebook, Inc., and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any claims made by any entrant, prize winner, or any other third parties, related in any way to the operation of this Sweepstakes as well as any other claims, damages or liability due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person (including death) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from receipt, acceptance, possession, misuse or use of a prize or participation in any promotion related activity or participation in this Sweepstakes. This Sweepstakes is in no way sponsored, endorsed, or administered by, or associated with, Facebook or Instagram.
11. DISPUTES:

Except where prohibited, each entrant agrees: (i) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Sweepstakes or any prizes awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the federal or state courts in the State of Illinois; (ii) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Sweepstakes, excluding attorneys’ fees; and (iii) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain an award for, and each entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses. All claims or disputes related to or involving these Official Rules and/or this Sweepstakes shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules, which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Illinois.

The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is a world famous event drawing a crowd of more than 30,000 people. Held each year on Independence Day at the original restaurant of Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs in Coney Island, a neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City the competition is considered to be the preeminent competitive eating event in the world.
A tradition that started in 1916 when two friends competed to prove each other’s patriotism, the once intimate event has now grown to be a nationally televised ESPN sensation. And because the audience size has grown along with it, booming voices and megaphones are no longer enough to reach the crowd.
With thousands of people now gathering annually to witness what Nathan’s Famous describes as a “unique sporting event,” the contest now requires nothing short of a powerful sound system. This year, PLUSMUSIC and Audio Production Services, both New York-based companies, were on hand to supply one for this very American tradition. More than 30,000 people were reached with KV2 equipment.
Simon Nathan, president of Audio Production Services and brand manager at Italian Speaker Imports, has been the sound engineer at the hot dog eating contest for the last ten years. “We needed a system that was powerful enough to reach a massive, outdoor crowd, that was small enough to not be visually obtrusive for the ESPN broadcast,” he said. “KV2 was perfect for an outdoor event of this size, because you don’t need lots of it to get a big sound.”

Using an ES1.0 system for the main audience at the front of the stage, Nathan used an ES1.8 and ES2.6 on each side. Two front speakers were used, each an EX26, as well as an ESR215 on each side. For the delay system, the 47-year sound engineer veteran chose two ES1 speakers on top of two ES1.8 speaker and an ES2.5.
“It was so powerful,” said Nathan. “You can do a lot more than virtually any other sound system with a KV2 rig. It covers a tremendous size crowd. It’s a point-source system as opposed to a line array, but that single box has incredibly even and efficient coverage; the quality of the power was stunning. The other thing is, the event is held at a kind of a cross section, so the sound has to be projected in four different directions. I was amazed at how clean and clear the sound was, no matter where you were standing in that massive crowd.”
The sound system was also needed for far more than just announcements. Prior to the main event, during which the winning contestant ate a whopping 62 hot dogs, the audience was also treated to more than two hours of performances from local bands, singers, dance crews, and DJs from the New York City area.
